Sarah Nicolls in concert

Friday May 11th 2007, 5.30 – 6.30 pm

Performing Arts Centre, Royal Grammar School,
Newcastle upon Tyne

‘Described by The Times as ‘a wonderful inspiration for and champion of new music’, Sarah returns to her home town for a charity concert mixing old and new music.

This will be a lively, varied and innovative virtuosic recital, with studies and preludes by Chopin, Rachmaninov, Debussy and Gyorgy Ligeti alongside other contemporary works by Richard Causton, Johannes Maria Staud and Jonathan Cole.

Admission Free, in aid of the Stroke Association

Sarah is currently researching music using live electronics with her trio Alexander’s Annexe: a collaboration with David Sheppard and Mira Calix.  Their aim is to incorporate the sonority, beauty, physical energy and impact of live piano performance into a larger scale feast for the ears through the use of live and pre-composed electronics.  The trio have performed in FUSELeeds, IF Festival, Sonorities Festival in Belfast , Transmedial in Berlin and the Parco della Musica in Rome .

Their first album was released on WARP Records last year.

Monday 25th June 2007, 11.45 – 1.00pm

Grieg Celebration

26 Woodbine Avenue, Gosforth, Tel 2854374.

(Please bring your lunch)
There will be a celebration of Grieg’s piano music by playing solos and duets. We hope as many as possible will come and participate. It will be good to hear any of his repertoire, both his miniatures and his grand works especially pieces you have found useful for teaching.
